Three Steps to a New You
No matter what goal you've set, your brilliant vision of success can become your new reality. Of course, the path between where you are and where you want to be may not be straight. But, you can keep moving forward if you follow three key steps:
- create a plan
- develop structure and support systems
- be accountable
Planning for Action
Take a look at your goal and think of specific actions that can help you achieve it. For example, if you want to earn more money, consider possible actions that can boost your bottom line. Should you add staff? Increase networking efforts? Implement time-saving technology? Brainstorm and then select the actions that you believe will lead to success. Establish a timeframe for launching and completing these tasks. Now you have a plan!
Staying On Track
With your plan in place, create tangible systems that offer structure and support so you can move forward. Find ways to keep your commitment to yourself. Grab a calendar, whether paper or electronic, and schedule chunks of time during your week to complete actions on your plan. If you are a visual person, post inspiring signs that remind you of the specific steps you must take to reach your goal.
Accountability Counts
The final step, accountability, keeps you on the path. That list of phone calls to make won't languish beneath a pile of mail if you know a close confidante will be checking in with you weekly. Choose someone outside your family, such as a walking buddy or a member of your business network, to offer regular, objective and confidential feedback on your progress.
A Helping Hand
If any or all of these steps feel intimidating, or if you get stuck along the way, a personal or professional coach can be of service. A coach can help refine your plan, develop more effective support systems and provide unshakable accountability. When tasks become difficult to complete, a coach can help identify and remove roadblocks.
Whether or not you choose to add a coach to your team, you can have the life you want. All you need to do is take action!
