Ok, I’m biased, but I think I have the best dog in the world. Brady, a 3 1/2 year-old Havanese, has a great personality…and he’s cute too.

Ok, I’m biased, but I think I have the best dog in the world. Brady, a 3 1/2 year-old Havanese, has a great personality…and he’s cute too.

Oh, welcome to my blog, by the way (It won’t always be about dogs, I promise).

I could go on and on about my dog’s many great qualities, but I will spare you. Instead, I want to share one lesson I’ve learned from him:

The value of being present.

Brady doesn’t sit around and stew about things. He doesn’t concentrate on what he doesn’t have or on what is not going right for him; rather, he is constantly there, in the moment, experiencing what is going on now and, as a result, enjoying himself immensely. I have no doubt that he loves every experience he has (well, except perhaps getting a bath or going to the groomer, but that is another story).

What can we learn from our beloved pets? To fully experience the moments in our life. To not sit around pining for what isn’t, what hasn’t happened yet or what we have yet to achieve. The future will take care of itself.

I take time out every day to spend with Brady, cuddling him, playing with him, and taking him for a walk. When I do this, I am reminded of his simple and yet wise philosophy on life, and it helps me get out of whatever funk I may have fallen into. What a wonderful gift. I wish the same for you.
